Sleeping great April 27, 2006 Sleep Guy (LA< CA) 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
Was VERY dubious of buying a mattress online, but alas this has been great
It did take almost a month for the smell to go away (but past reviews warned of this) and it took almost 3 weeks to "learn how to sleep on this" (hint: get rid of extra pillows) but it was worth it - I am sleeping extremely deeply and trips to the chiro have all but ceased
Compared to the exact same product for $1400-$1800 at local stores, I'd buy it again in a second - The hardest thing was going from a queen sized mattress to a king!
Great bed January 2, 2008 Jeffrey S. Smith (Ellicott City, Maryland) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have owned this bed for almost 8 months. It is very comfortable to sleep on, and easy on the joints. My lady has had several whiplash injuries, and memory foam is the only bed she will sleep on. She had a full size memory foam bed for 4 years before we got this bed.
Shipping was fast, and arrived in good condition.
We tried several pound ratios of the foam, and found this one to be the best, your preferences may vary.
Like others say, the smell is bad when you first get it, but let it air out for a couple of days. I don't even notice anymore.
We did pick up a micro slip-cover from Wal-Mart to keep dust mites down. I don't know if memory foam has a problem with them, but just in case.
The memory foam is much easier to move from house to house because it can fold. This king size mattress was easier to move than our queen spring mattress. Also, because the box springs for the king are two twin size, they are easier to move too than the queen box springs.
Only serious complaint about memory foam is that it absorbs fluids like a sponge. If you spill something in the bed, sweet, or wet the bed at night, the bed can take a while to dry, and is hard to clean. I guess that would be true of spring mattresses too, but the waterbeds are vinyl, and all of the bedding can be washed.
Great Bed, Great Price December 27, 2006 M. Jobgen (South Dakota USA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have had back problems for many years now and I have not been able to find a bed that seems to support my back in the areas that need the support, until I slept on this mattress. My aunt & uncle has this mattress also and recommended for me to try it.
At first, you notice the smell (but it was not as bad as I was expecting it... My husband didnt even notice!!!) But the smell does eventually go away.
The bed is also very firm when you first get it, so it takes a while for the bed to be comfortable.
But finally I have found a bed that supports my back in all the places I need. I would recommend this bed to anyone who asks!
moved down to a better mattress February 10, 2009 Richard Webb 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have a platform king sized bed. My simmons $1200 mattress gave out after about 7 years. I had been having problems sleeping the last few weeks, waking up and tossing/turning all night. In the morning I had a sore back and was very tired. I bought this mattress after reviewing on web only. It was delivered in 6 days. Upon opening, there was an odor which was not that bad. After only 4 days it is mostly disappeared. As for sleeping, each progressing night has been an improvement. The last two nights, I barely moved from the spot where I fell asleep. I am well satisfied. Don't get me wrong, my simmons was a great mattress for at least 5 years. I don't know how long a mattress should last but it seems a better value to pay this price than the $1200 for the simmons. This mattress is not as thick as the simmons was. It is firm but the memory foam does provide cushioning and feels great to me - but I like a firm mattress. I would consider a thicker foam mattress if you want one that is softer.
just perfect January 19, 2010 Julia Dunn 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
At $579, this mattress is the best deal out there. I bought this after reading all 13 previous reviews and they are all exactly right. The 5.5lb density is pretty firm- I was afraid at first it would be TOO firm. We are both bigger people around the middle, and we both LOVED sleeping on it. So feeling how firm it is with your hand can be a bit mis-leading- it is SUPER comfortable. I sleep all over- on my sides, on my back, and now with this mattress I can even sleep on my stomach, which hasn't been comfortable for me on a "regular" mattress since about high school. It's 2 layers: 3 inches of the elastic memory foam (which is body-heat sensitive- the latex memory foam is not) and then 7" of "High Resilience Polyurethane Base Foam." It expanded to full size very quickly. We slept on it about 3 hours after opening it and the smell that everyone talks about wasn't too bad. This morning the smell was totally gone, and it wasn't that bad to begin with. The transfer of motion is almost totally gone as well. We used to sleep on a regular mattress with a memory foam topper, and I always thought that was "just as good." Trust me, it's NOT. We were always waking each other up. Now we can both move around and the other one doesn't feel a thing, and therefore doesn't wake up. Even our dogs getting on and off the bed all night didn't wake me up. One thing to note is the warranty. It does not cover shipping costs, comfort (ie: if you don't like how firm or soft it is, too bad), does not cover the zipper, and is voided if the mattress is at all stained, scuffed, otherwise damaged, and if it was not kept on a flat solid surface (ie putting it on a slatted base or regular box springs will void the warranty). If you can check out what density you like at a local store beforehand that would probably be best. We lucked out and happened to like the firmness without knowing beforehand how it would be, so we won't be returning it anytime soon. Ours arrived on the first day of the shipping window, vacuum sealed, then wrapped in 3 layers of heavy plastic and tied with 4 straps. It was not damaged at all, and was really easy to un-wrap and lay out. We have absolutely no complaints. I'm recommending it to all our friends and anyone who reads this.
One last thing before I forget, as another review stated- memory foam and the base foam soak up spills like a crazy sponge. The reason we bought this was because our new dog peed on our old memory foam mattress pad, which was only 4 inches thick- and we just could NOT clean it. I tried EVERYTHING, and ended up basically SOAKING half the mattress pad in kids'n'pets cleaner, to no avail. It still smelled and was still stained. I can't BEAR the thought of spilling anything on the new mattress (seriously, even a little tiny spill will be obnoxious), so we are getting a plastic cover (which also cuts down on dustmites, which I am highly allergic to), and I recommend to anyone who buys this or any other memory foam product to get a plastic cover for it. Otherwise one tiny spill can ruin your investment.
