| Customer Reviews: Bed in a Box is the real deal September 4, 2010 Zuzu (Maine, USA) We've had our PacDown queen size mattress for about two weeks, so I'm giving it four stars--it's too soon to make it a five. It arrived as promised, packed in a large box that contained the shrink-wrapped squished-down mattress, two "free" pillows, and the goose down mattress cover. The mattress itself was contained in a sturdy duffel bag with nylon strapping handles that made it fairly easy for two older people to drag it to the bedroom. We lifted the mattress onto the foundation (5.5" low-profile, flat surface, that I had bought locally, as recommended on the Bed in a Box website). The mattress unrolled easily and started to puff up immediately. It reached 9" very quickly. The big surprise was how soft it was on the surface. However, we like it for sleeping and find it sufficiently supportive. I have back and hip problems, and I've noticed that I can sleep most nights on my "bad hip" side without pain waking me up. I can't say this is entirely due to the new mattress, but it's worth noting that I couldn't do it on my old latex foam mattress. The deal (reasonable price, free shipping, free return after 120 days if the mattress is unsatisfactory) is what gave me the confidence to make the purchase sight unseen. Buying a name-brand mattress locally was out of the question--comparison shopping for a mattress is impossible because each mattress model has a different name in each store, sales people are overbearing, and prices are ridiculous. Plus, returns are difficult and generally include a restocking fee. I've gone this route, and I'll never do it again. For about $600 we have a comfortable mattress and a four-month trial period. That's a darn good deal, in my view. By the way, for people who wonder about Bed in a Box customer service, I emailed two questions to Bed in a Box prior to my purchase and received a helpful response each time. I was also impressed by the lack of Better Business Bureau complaints. My only negative comment about the website is the sales hype. I think less hyperbole would make a far more convincing sales pitch for this mattress. I found myself picking through the hyped-up claims to find and focus on the facts, which are vitally important to me whenever I'm about to part with my cash.
